Parisian detective Luc Moncrief ends up working for NYPD。 This character is rich, entitled, and obnoxious。 Not my favourite detective series
Kathleen Long,
Loved this novel and Patterson's style of short chapters。 It is three books in one with the same characters。 Riveting, exciting, great story telling。 Looking forward to seeing more of Luc Moncrief and K。Burke。 Loved this novel and Patterson's style of short chapters。 It is three books in one with the same characters。 Riveting, exciting, great story telling。 Looking forward to seeing more of Luc Moncrief and K。Burke。 。。。more
Kelli Persinger,
I never ever got into this book。 It was a complete and total miss for me! I see that it’s #1 in the series… I definitely will not waste my time reading the others in the series。 I didn’t like the characters or the story。 I found it super super difficult to get through but hate to not finish a book。
Judy Girod,
These three novels about a suave, handsome, rich, Frenchman who happens to like to solve crimes his way in New York City with side trips to Paris, the south of France, Lexington Kentucky, with his French speaking attractive down to earth NYC detective partner is pure fantasy, but then - why not? It’s a fun read with enough twists and turns in the world of the ultra affluent who collect art, race horses, dine at fabulous places and complicate life with a murder or three。 Fine stores in NYC, Paris These three novels about a suave, handsome, rich, Frenchman who happens to like to solve crimes his way in New York City with side trips to Paris, the south of France, Lexington Kentucky, with his French speaking attractive down to earth NYC detective partner is pure fantasy, but then - why not? Dana Harding,
This is definitely not a thriller。 Not exciting。 I wont even read the rest of the trilogy。
Chazzi,
Luc Moncrief is on a temporary assignment with NYPD。 A detective of renown in Paris for his daring solutions to drug cases。 Dressing in bespoke clothes, enjoying the high-end lifestyle with a monthly high-end allowance from his father — chairman of a giant pharmaceutical company — Luc is not the typical NYPD cop。“French Kiss” has Luc working with Detective Maria Martinez, a cop who goes by the book。 Luc goes by instinct。 Together they make an excellent team。This time out, he is given some low-en Luc Moncrief is on a temporary assignment with NYPD。 A detective of renown in Paris for his daring solutions to drug cases。 Dressing in bespoke clothes, enjoying the high-end lifestyle with a monthly high-end allowance from his father — chairman of a giant pharmaceutical company — Luc is not the typical NYPD cop。“French Kiss” has Luc working with Detective Maria Martinez, a cop who goes by the book。 Luc goes by instinct。 Together they make an excellent team。This time out, he is given some low-end theft cases while Martinez is on loan to Vice to work on a case。 When she is murdered Luc is assigned a new partment, Katherine Burke, and the yduty of finding Martinez’s murder。 Burke is another by-the-book copy and doesn’t quite get Luc’s style。Over time, they learn to adjust and appreciate each other’s strengths。 They also crack the case。In “The Christmas Mystery” it is the theft of priceless paintings and art forgery, along with a dose of murder and Luc’s getting over the murder of his long time girlfriend。 Christmas isn’t a great time for him。The missing paintings are stolen from the scene of a brutal murder。 How did it happen and where did they go? There is also the word that forged paintings are being sold as originals to wealthy buyers。 Where are those coming from? Meanwhile there is another killer on the loose。In “French Twist” women are dropping dead in upscale department stores。 Another possible drug case, but how and where is the drug coming from? A second case, involving horse racing and some very old friends of Luc’s is also on the radar。 It seems someone is scamming the odds on the horse the friends own。The back and forth between the characters, the difference in methodology that each uses, add to the enjoyment of the reading。 Luc may dress well and live well, but he is just as serious about his work as his by –the-book partner, Katherine Burke。 Meanwhile Burke is exposed to the lifestyle Luc has been raised in and is finding sleuthing doesn’t always need to follow protocol。I don’t know if there are anymore books for this pair of characters。 The co-author is Richard DiLallo。 Be nice if there were more… 。。。more
Melissa,
I wanted more !!! Normally I’m not a fan of James Patterson, but this book slightly changed my mind。 While it is three separate stories, it all involves the same two detectives。 From losing some of their own loved ones and to possibly falling in love together。 But I wanted more ! I want to know where their story continues。
Jay Tonks,
First of all, I love the main character Luc Moncrief! I enjoyed all three stories in this book and the character development as well。 This was an enjoyable book to read and I definitely recommend。
Michele,
Very very light, a beach read for sure。 A trio of pleasant stories of a wealthy French detective doing a tour with the NYPD。
Mkingsford,
What a delightful set of 3 books in one book。 A Paris detective has moved to the NYC PD。 He is paired with an a American female detective。 A delightful fun read that you can finish I just a few days。 I loved the short - very short - chapters and how fast the stories move you along。 No extra narrative, just a clean crisp story。 Hope there are move coming with this detective。
Margaret W。 Schmelz,
I enjoyed these short stories。 I like the new character, Luc Moncrief They followed each one and held my interest to see what happened next
Joseph R。,
AS is usual with authors as good as Patterson, I feel like I am reading a story by my old friend。 He has that knack of being able to involve the reader in the story right from the start and hold that persons interest until he is finished with whatever he has written。 I thoroughly enjoy his ability to bring you into the storyline and keep your attention regardless of anything happening around you。 I have always recommended his books to everyone that wants an enjoyable time reading and being immer AS is usual with authors as good as Patterson, I feel like I am reading a story by my old friend。 He has that knack of being able to involve the reader in the story right from the start and hold that persons interest until he is finished with whatever he has written。 I thoroughly enjoy his ability to bring you into the storyline and keep your attention regardless of anything happening around you。 I have always recommended his books to everyone that wants an enjoyable time reading and being immersed in the book that he has written。 There are other good authors out there but he always has that special spot when I see a book written by him that I have not yet read。 。。。more
Carolyn,
I thoroughly enjoyed this book of three novellas。 Each was long enough not to feel like a short story。The stories were fast paced, and easy reads。 I have to say, most of the time I like James Patterson's protagonists, but Luc Moncrief came across as a rich, self-absorbed, know it all。 That said, I did enjoy this book。 I thoroughly enjoyed this book of three novellas。 Each was long enough not to feel like a short story。The stories were fast paced, and easy reads。 I have to say, most of the time I like James Patterson's protagonists, but Luc Moncrief came across as a rich, self-absorbed, know it all。 That said, I did enjoy this book。 。。。more

Laura Aase,
This was great。 Luc is a Paris detective on assignment in NYC。 This is a series of 3 different mysteries, from bizarre murders to horse racing crime to art theft。 He and his partner K Burke are a great team along with his “feelings” about solving the crime。 Very fun!
Laura,
I can't believe I finished this。In fairness, I only really did because I was driving and didn't want to pull over to find a different audio book。Basically, Luc Moncrief, a detective from Paris, joins the NYPD for a stint。Moncrief is arrogant and charming in a way that turned me off completely。 He disregards every assignment given to him, spends half of his day at lunch drinking wine (and somehow doesn't get fired?!), spends a massive portion of the book in boutiques like Hermes, Versace, and Lou I can't believe I finished this。In fairness, I only really did because I was driving and didn't want to pull over to find a different audio book。Basically, Luc Moncrief, a detective from Paris, joins the NYPD for a stint。Moncrief is arrogant and charming in a way that turned me off completely。 He disregards every assignment given to him, spends half of his day at lunch drinking wine (and somehow doesn't get fired?!), spends a massive portion of the book in boutiques like Hermes, Versace, and Louis Vuitton because, yes, you guessed it, he is ridiculously rich。When I say ridiculously, that's an understatement。 He inherits several BILLION from his father。 Seriously。 If you're going to make a character rich, maybe make it a little more realistic? It would have been simple to have him inherit 5 million and still have him be rich。 But no。 Filthy rich wasn't enough。 He needed enough money to randomly buy emeralds for his partner, finance his own intuitive investigations because the procedure-driven NYPD didn't approve of his methods, buy apartments as if they were shirts。 In every other chapter he's talking about 5k handbags or sneakers。 The mysteries seemed like a pretext for us to go shopping with him and live the high life vicariously。There were some good elements here。 The mysteries themselves were interesting enough, regardless of their anticlimactic resolutions。 There are unexpected twists, which normally would make me pretty happy。 But the cases seemed a bothersome distraction to the central purpose of flaunting money and exhibiting an extreme case of stereotypical Frenchness。The murder of a cop's partner would be a horrifying event and a great mystery。 It really wasn't。The subsequent murder of his one true love would then be a really good storyline and there was serious potential there。 It seemed like a distraction。The discovering of the killer, especially the situation he found himself in, should have been an interesting and intense event。 It was sort of mentioned in passing with a shrug。The whole thing just felt so superficial and contrived。 Two stars instead of one because the underlying ideas were good, despite the fact that they just didn't land。In conclusion, if I never hear another name drop of some luxury european brand, it will be too soon。Ugh。 。。。more

Easy read with an unreal plot。 If you r on a beach pick it up。 I liked Luc, the French detective。
Nancy Wieme,
I like K。 Burke and the main character is ok。 Sometimes funny。。。 sometimes a bit arrogant or just rich and good looking。 Hahahah I didn't realize it was 3 short stories。 I probably would have passed。 Still enjoyable。 I like K。 Burke and the main character is ok。 Sometimes funny。。。 sometimes a bit arrogant or just rich and good looking。 Hahahah I didn't realize it was 3 short stories。 I probably would have passed。 Still enjoyable。 。。。more

The 2nd story in this book the authors have her receiving from him an emerald ring for Christmas。 In the 3rd story the author makes reference to the emerald necklace he gave her for Christmas。 Continuity should be a real thing in story telling, wouldn't you think? I decided to reread [listen] this set of books again and I was disappointed this time around。 Evidently my tastes have changed。 IF you haven't read any of these books then I recommend you get only one book and check it out before buying the whole set。 I decided to reread [listen] this set of books again and I was disappointed this time around。 Evidently my tastes have changed。 IF you haven't read any of these books then I recommend you get only one book and check it out before buying the whole set。 。。。more

This is a collaboration with author Richard DiLallo。 I did finish it but I found the characters very cookie cutter and the dialogue not very believable。

"The Paris detective" has been billed as three "Thrillers。" I was, not, however, "Thrilled" by any of the novellas。 Also, the cover states that the best detective in New York City is French。 I didn't find Luc Moncrief to be the 'best detective。' His knowledge of the finer things in life were extensive but it was not clear how he solved any of the cases。 A little disappointing。 "The Paris detective" has been billed as three "Thrillers。" I was, not, however, "Thrilled" by any of the novellas。 Also, the cover states that the best detective in New York City is French。 I didn't find Luc Moncrief to be the 'best detective。' His knowledge of the finer things in life were extensive but it was not clear how he solved any of the cases。 A little disappointing。 。。。more
